lifestyle products for the home, exploring Indian craft

Mixing 2 or more material and crafts, based on a theme. Decorative and functional together.

Theme chosen: meditative, chakras, onenessMoodboard on water, ripples, flow etc., using cause and effect to make product kinetic. You have started with your initial conceptualization, and have been working on candle holders. Your exploration seems quite promising. You have visited some mainstream furniture stores, and also need to visit some shops that use craft as their main inspiration and focus, and understand the difference between industrial products that mimic craft in the feel, and products that are designed with craft in mind.At this point you are exploring forms without thinking too much about the material.Work more on functionality, try to expand further on the idea of a candle stand or a fruit bowl. Think about what you could do as a designer to make a truly functional product and not just another pretty product in an already over crowded product.Look up trends and fashion to work with themes. Consider health and wellness as a theme. Think about the things that don’t work in the current products. For example in a large fruit bowl, the small grapes at the bottom spoil, smell, fruit flies gather.Consider the constraints of craft techniques and materials. Shortlist 2 or 3 crafts. Things to bring for the next review1. research trends2. research products3. visit craft places/people4. document craft process and check what is possible and not5. Rethink your theme, and be stronger on the idea of meditation etc.

Next review: 23rd August 2011
